Honored to celebrate Mayor Andre Dickens’ inaugural Year of Atlanta Youth and International Day of the Girl! Thank you @atlyearoftheyouth for having me! #GirlsEmpowerment #EmpoweredGirlsBecomeWomenWhoChangetheWorld
The Griot Collective and @fiyaangelou was invited to serve as a mentor and a speaker for Mayor Andre Dickens’ Inaugural Atlanta Girls Empowerment Summit in honor of the #InternationalDayoftheGirl . What an Honor it was to having meaningful and hopefully memorable conversations with over 100 high school girls in the city of Atlanta! Even helped them do a little podcasting too!
“I raise up my voice — not so that I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard… we cannot all succeed when half of us are held back.” — Malala Yousafzai
Just a little PSA.
I lived on land that was stolen from the Muscogee and Cherokee people and the only Christopher I recognize is Bridges (Ludacris) and Wallace (Biggie). Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day #IndigenousPeoplesDay2023
National Heritage Months and Identity Focused Days are great for encouraging awareness, but being aware does not automatically lead to inclusion. An effective strategy for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion should also include policy reviews, climate assessments, recruiting and retention plans, and more! Let The Griot Collective help your organization develop effective and measurable DEI Strategies. #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion #DEIconsultant
The Griot Collective had the pleasure of working with the executive leadership and DEI committee of Viva Health in Birmingham, Alabama! The pathway to an inclusive environment starts with open conversations. #Diversity #WorkplaceWellBeing #InclusionInAction #DEI #TheGriotCollective
As culture shifts and society evolves, those who are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion must be willing to shift and evolve as well. We have to move beyond trendy buzzwords and being “politically correct” and work to develop a posture of humility. Are you committed? Is your organization? #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion #CulturalHumility #DEI #TheGriotCollective
How many times do you encounter dehumanizing language throughout your day? Once you catch it, you can’t miss it! A man cheats on his partner and instantly he is DEHUMANIZED to a dog! Someone has a sporadic mood change and suddenly they labeled “Schizo” or “crazy”. A person embraces non-conventional means of pleasure and they become “a freak”. Dehumanization leads to and seeks to validate prejudice, discrimination, and violence. #Dehumanization #DEI #TheGriotCollective #AStoryForChange
The practices of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are not automatic. They require intentionality and consistency. You need all three to achieve the goal; fall short on one and the others suffer. They are intertwined and interdependent. #diversityequityinclusion #TheGriotCollective #DEIconsulting
What is DEI? DEI is an acronym for three basic tenets of creating an organization (workplace, church, schools, social groups) that is a welcoming place for all identities. Some organizations use the term DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Belonging), others use JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion), and some just use D&I (Diversity and Inclusion). These terms are NOT the same and should be used to accurately describe the organization’s mission and vision around Diversity. #DEI #Inclusion #diversity #Workplace
TESTIMONIALS
Dr. Allen was a phenomenal facilitator! The work she does is so valuable, and I'm grateful for all I've learned from her.
Dr. Michelle Allen was phenomenal. Not only brilliant in knowledge and instruction, but especially in handling discussions and honest mistakes.
I really enjoyed Dr. Allen a lot. I think she exhibited a lot of patience and diplomacy with each participant regardless of their view points or statements.
Dr. Allen was fantastic. She made the session interactive and didn't just talk at us. It made the session more interesting and it made the material stick with me better. I would definitely take a course again taught by Dr. Allen.
